Dry Mouth One of the most annoying symptoms of fibromyalgia is the dry mouth (and bad breath). A fibromyalgia specialist once told me that he can always tell it's a fibromyalgia patient before he even performs the exam---because the patient walks into the office carrying a bottle of water!! Two things really helped my dry mouth: 1. Probiotics - Especially, the bad breath, dry mouth treatment from BreezeCare. 2. Iodoral - The salivary glands in the mouth concentrate iodine 20-100 times serum levels. The function of the iodine in the saliva is not yet clear, however, after treatment with Iodoral (50 mg), my salivary glands began functioning better. I no longer awakened in the night because of thirst, and I did not need to carry a water bottle with me everywhere! Gum Disease Infected Gums Leak Toxins Into Bloodstream from Journal of Periodontology January 2002;73:73-78 Cleaning Your Mouth Do not use toothpastes that contain fluoride (a halogen that competes with iodine) or sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) which can lead to canker sores or "mouth ulcers". It is perfectly acceptable to use plain baking soda if another acceptable toothpaste cannot be found. Root Canals Root Canals Pose Health Threat [Note: Until I had a root canal tooth removed and replaced with an implant, I was unable to make any progress in recovering from fibromyalgia! The root canal had been done improperly, and the gum area around the tooth became repeatedly infected. If you are having gum problems that require a root canal, you might consider an implant instead.] Amalgam (Silver/Mercury) Fillings Iodine chelates mercury, so there should be no need to have your mercury fillings removed unless they require replacement for other reasons.
